PLANS have been submitted for a gipsy settlement near the A34 north of Oxford.

The Romany Gypsy Advisory Group wants to create a site for eight mobile homes, eight touring caravans for nomadic use only and eight utility rooms for gypsy families on a piece of scrubland just off the A34 junction between Islip and Hampton Poyle.

Cherwell district councillor Simon Holland said: “It will be controversial and if necessary I will call it in so it can be properly reviewed in planning, where all parties can make their pitch.”

Hampton Gay and Poyle Parish Meeting chairman Dave Green said: “I want to know more about it.

“I will not oppose it on anything other than genuine planning grounds.”

“Obviously they have got to go somewhere.”

Cherwell said consultation would be open until April 16 and the application could be decided in April or May.

No-one from the Romany Gypsy Advisory Group was available for comment.
