The date of the Church is unknown but the earliest mention is of a grant of tithes made in 1074 by Robert d'Oilly, and there is also a Norman lintel with a star-in-square pattern on the outside south wall of the chancel. Other early features include a remnant of a 15th century wall painting, Jacobean pews and pulpit, and the font which was first used on 19th February 1682. There used to be two galleries, one at the back for children, and the other in the north east corner of the nave for the use of Lord Valentia's family, each with its own external staircase. These were removed when the north aisle was added in 1878. Bletchington's main claim to fame is that Christopher Wren once lived at the Rectory when his father, Dr. Wren, was deprived of his living by the Puritans. Christopher's eldest sister, Susan, had married William Holder, Rector from 1642 to 62 (who is also known for his work with the deaf), and the Holders offered the family a home. In 1669 when Christopher became Surveyor-General of the King's Works, he married Faith, third daughter of Sir Thomas Coghill of Bletchington Park in London. Dr. Wren is believed to be buried under the chancel. People are often surprised that the Church is so far from the village, but this may be due either to the patronage of nearby Bletchington Park, or perhaps the original houses were once around that area before the road now through the village became more important as a drover's route between Worcester and London.

A shared supper in the Church followed by Compline takes place about once a month in St.Giles Church. Why not come along to enjoy fellowship and good food, followed by a short Evening Service of Compline. All you need to bring apart from yourself, is some cutlery and food or drink to share. Supper normally starts about 7pm and we normally go home just after 8pm. The next one takes place on Monday 22nd March.
